User Queries and Query Sets
Users can create and store queries containing their specific query request
along each dimension. Each user query belongs to a "Query Set" which is
usually oriented to a project or issue under study. Custom queries are
stored on the Dataview Tree, as a child of the dataview to which they apply.
Query sets usually contain multiple custom queries each with a distinct
parent dataview. Use custom queries to make a presentation on an issue or
to define a fixed set of reports. To create a custom query and query set,
follow these steps:
- Highlight the basic dataview
- Select the New Query Set tool button
- Give the query set a name and description
- The system adds a user query icon below the dataview
- Enter the query request for this query. You can change the query at
any time. The last query request entered remains stored in the view
document.
Use the same query set to collect queries on a common subject. Use the
Select Query item to select from a set of existing query sets.
Browser Like Query Navigation
It's easy to move backwards or forwards through prior queries using the
"back" and "forward" buttons on the main tool bar. Select the immediately
prior query or select any prior query from the drop down list. Query
history can even be preserved between sessions.
Run Time Result Formatting, Scaling
Every dataview is programmed by its creator with specific result formatting
including chart style. These formatting choices can be overridden by the
user on the dataview property page. To bring up the dataview property page,
click the property button on the general tool bar or select the "View
Properties" item on the "File" menu while the dataview is active. You can
also right click on the dataview icon or results window and select the
"Properties" item. Changed dataview properties are retained in the view
document, so each user can customize their dataviews.
